Masculinities today
Book premiere, reading and debate with Sascha Rijkeboer, Peter Schneider, Michael Fehr, Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç, Donat Blum, Valentin Moritz, Franziska Schutzbach
What does it mean to be a man today - in times of Toxic Masculinity and Gender Fluidity? How and by whom are people made into men? Is so-called 'masculinity' in crisis? Can men be feminists? And how do we position ourselves in relation to all this?
These questions will be discussed at the festival by an illustrious round of top-class guests from literature, radio and television:
- Michael Fehr, shooting star of the Swiss literary scene. A writer who does not write, but speaks, because Michael Fehr is almost blind. His stories are written orally, made for the lecture, the stage.
- Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç, Muslim political scientist and book author with a focus on racism, anti-Semitism, orientalism and empowerment.
- Sascha Rijkeboer, non-binary icon, trans activist, performer and columnist for Missy magazine.
- Peter Schneider, psychoanalyst and satirist known from Radio SRF, Tages-Anzeiger and Sonntagszeitung
- Franziska Schutzbach bestselling author, PhD gender researcher, sociologist and formative intellectual and activist voice of the new feminist movement in Switzerland
- Donat Blum, Swiss novelist, literary activist, founder of Glitter, the first queer literary magazine in the German-speaking world. Also co-editor of Oh Boy.
- Valentin Moritz, German novelist, former literary agent and co-editor of Oh Boy.
The event will take place on the occasion of the book premiere of Oh Boy, the first literary anthology on masculinities. The book brings together 18 personal narratives by influential contemporary authors and will be published by Kanon Verlag in July 2023. Embedded in the discussion, the participating authors will read and discuss excerpts from the new anthology.
The event will be in German.
If the weather is bad or uncertain, the event will take place indoors at Kaufleuten.
Organized by a the bookstore Bodmer.
