Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Is True Happiness Ever Attainable?
Over a decade after her last novel, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie returns to the literary stage with Dream Count. Her appearance in Switzerland for a single event is a tremendous honor for our festival, making the evening one of the most exclusive literary events of the year!
In Dream Count, Adichie weaves together the lives of four women who meet, support, and lose each other across continents. She captures existential female experiences like no other, often revealed in the smallest moments: a pregnancy test balanced on the edge of a bathtub, daydreams sparked by a glance on an airplane, the anticipation of a phone call, or a sudden surge of courage.
This sparkling, transcendent novel is a trenchant reflection on the choices we make and those made for us, on daughters and mothers, and on our interconnected world. Dream Count pulses with emotional urgency and poignant, unflinching observations of the human heart. Is true happiness ever attainable, or is it just a fleeting state? And how honest must we be with ourselves in order to love, and to be loved?
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is recognized as one of the great voices in world literature – a feminist icon and literary superstar. Her work has been translated into 55 languages and captivates millions of readers. Her global bestseller Americanah earned her the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2013. With her TED Talk We Should All Be Feminists, she gave feminism a significant pop-cultural boost. Born in Nigeria in 1977, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie now lives in Lagos and the USA.
The conversation will be in English, the book excerpts will be read in German.
