Gospel meets black metal. With the fusion of two such contrasting musical styles, the Swiss band Zeal & Ardor led by mastermind Manuel Gagneux took the metal world by storm in 2016. The band was celebrated worldwide by the music press for its innovative sound, and sold-out concerts followed in many European countries, in the USA, in Australia and New Zealand.
But also in terms of content, the band hits the nerve of the time with their musical statements against racism, oppression and violence.
On the new self-titled album Zeal & Ardor, the rage hisses out of every pore of the 14-track opus - a hell ride that packs a powerful punch. Despite all the brute force and darkness, there is always room for gentle, almost tender moments of beguiling beauty. A masterpiece!
