How do we address the tensions between identity politics and universalism? How can we overcome societal divisions and the crisis of truth in the age of fake news? And what does all this mean for the future of democracy?

These profound questions will be the focus of this distinguished panel discussion on the future of democracy.​

Omri Boehm is an internationally recognized philosopher whose work explores ethical questions of remembrance and the significance of universal human rights. Since 2010, he has been an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the New School for Social Research in New York. His concepts of "radical universalism" and the idea of a binational Jewish-Palestinian state have sparked widespread international discussions. His book Radikaler Universalismus. Jenseits von Identität (Radical Universalism: Beyond Identity) was awarded the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding in 2024. ​

Jonas Lüscher is a Swiss-German writer and essayist. He is considered one of the leading intellectuals of our time, whose essays and commentaries on social and political issues receive widespread attention not only in Switzerland. His novella Frühling der Barbaren (The Barbarians' Spring, 2013) has been translated into several languages and received numerous awards. For his novel Kraft (Power, 2017), he was awarded the Swiss Book Prize. ​

The conversation will be moderated by Swiss philosopher and bestselling author Barbara Bleisch. She is renowned for her ability to approach life's big questions with profound knowledge and graceful ease – helping us become a bit wiser and more composed. Since 2010, she has been hosting the program Sternstunde Philosophie on Swiss Radio and Television (SRF).
